Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital gets endowment
Mike Reagan of WMTW Channel 8 reports that the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is getting some perks from Dunkin’ Donuts.
Maine franchise owners are giving the hospital a $250,000 endowment over five years for its hospital-based teacher program. The program inside the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical center ensures patients between the ages of 5 and 18 remain connected with their teachers and classmates, and don’t fall behind in their schoolwork.
“I believe that it’s a very critical and overlooked part of the patient’s stay here, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to have an impact in making sure they have a wonderful education during their stay here,” Dunkin’ Donuts franchise owner Kim Garrett said.
The endowment creates northern New England’s only hospital-based teacher program, a release said. Teacher Abby Snyder meets with up to 12 patients every day.
